THE PERSON BEHIND HAY & MOON
I’m Saskia
I am the writer, editor, and designer behind Hay & Moon.
I work with people who know that something matters, but do not yet know how to give it form: a letter they have been meaning to write, photographs whose stories they do not want to lose, or fragments of a life they want others to understand.
You bring the memories, materials, and meaning. I listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and shape what you share into something personal, coherent, and lasting.
I work in English and Dutch, online with clients internationally and in person in the Netherlands by arrangement.
WHY THIS WORKThe question behind Hay & Moon
My path to this work began with loss, and with a question that stayed with me long after the formal moments had passed: not only how we say goodbye, but how love continues.
For my family, the answer was found in small acts of remembrance: a life story gathered into a photo book, carefully chosen planting at a graveside, and quiet rituals woven into everyday life.
They taught me that remembrance does not have to be grand to be meaningful. A story written down, a familiar expression preserved in someone’s own words, or a photograph placed in its proper context can give love somewhere tangible to live.
That belief sits at the heart of Hay & Moon.
EXPERIENCE AND APPROACHA varied path,
with one clear thread
My background spans academic research, humanitarian innovation, design, photography, and storytelling. These fields may appear different, but they have always asked the same things of me: to pay close attention, ask thoughtful questions, make sense of complex material, and give it a clear and meaningful form.
I have also trained in End-of-Life Doula Care through the University of Vermont and volunteer with Issoria Hospice & Thuis in Leiden.
This experience has deepened my understanding of how love, grief, humour, uncertainty, and ordinary life can sit beside one another, and how important it is not to force someone else’s story into a neat or unfamiliar shape.

Listening is where this work begins.
During our project conversations, and only with your permission, I make an audio recording. This allows me to return to your exact words, expressions, rhythms, and memories rather than relying on hurried notes.
From there, I select, organise, write, edit, and design. The finished piece is professionally shaped, but it should never feel as though I have spoken for you. It should feel recognisably yours, only clearer, more coherent, and complete.
You will have the opportunity to review the work and request changes before it is finalised. Your material is treated as private, and nothing is shared without your permission.
THE NAMEWhy Hay & Moon?
The name Hay & Moon is a quiet nod to my own family, to inheritance, and to the generations that came before us.
It reminds me that we are all part of a longer story, and that what we pass on with care often travels further than we realise.
You do not need a fully formed idea
